Solar Industry: Grounding studies and Lightning risk assessment and protection study
- 56 MWp Solar PV power Project: Germany
This project involved comprehensive grounding studies and lightning risk assessment for a 56 MWp solar photovoltaic (PV) power project in Germany. VPA team evaluated the site’s existing systems and developed protection strategies to mitigate lightning risks. The study ensured compliance with national and international safety standards, providing robust protection for the solar PV infrastructure. Advanced simulation tools were used to model the effects of lightning strikes and optimize grounding solutions. The outcome was a reliable and efficient grounding system, enhancing the safety and longevity of the solar PV project.
- 27 MWp Solar PV power Project: Romania
For the 40.27 MWp solar PV power project in Romania, our experts conducted thorough grounding studies and lightning risk assessments. The aim was to identify potential risks and implement effective grounding solutions to safeguard the project. Our assessment included detailed analysis of soil resistivity and grounding system performance under various conditions. By integrating state-of-the-art protective measures, we enhanced the project’s resilience against lightning strikes. The resulting protection plan not only met regulatory requirements but also ensured the project’s operational continuity and safety.
- 134 MWp Solar PV power Project: Romania
In Romania, we undertook another grounding and lightning protection studies for one of a large-scale 134 MWp solar PV power project. This project required a designed approach to address the unique challenges posed by its size and location. Our team performed in-depth analyses of the site’s grounding requirements, evaluating potential lightning strike points and developing robust protection strategies. The solutions implemented provided a high level of safety and reliability, ensuring the project’s compliance with stringent industry standards and enhancing its overall durability.
- 139 MWp Solar PV power Project: Spain
For 139 MWp solar PV power project in Spain, VPA carried out comprehensive grounding and lightning risk assessment services. This study involved a meticulous examination of the project’s grounding infrastructure, assessing its ability to handle lightning-induced surges. Our team utilized advanced modeling techniques to simulate lightning events and optimize the grounding system design. The protection measures implemented significantly reduced the risk of damage due to lightning strikes, ensuring the project’s operational efficiency and safety.
Wind Power Plant Industry
- 500MW Wind Power plant: Egypt
For the 500 MW wind power plant in Egypt, we conducted an extensive grounding study. The study aimed to enhance the safety and reliability of the plant’s electrical systems by designing an effective grounding network. Our engineers analyzed soil resistivity and grounding system performance, ensuring the design could withstand extreme conditions considering the extensive nature of wind power plant and power collection system. The grounding solutions developed provided protection against electrical faults, improving the plant’s operational safety and compliance with international standards.
HVDC Transmission Line Tower Footing Design
- ±600 kV HVDC Transmission Line: Chile (South America)
In Chile, VPA was tasked with the tower footing design for a ±600 kV HVDC transmission line. This project involved designing tower footing earthing that could support the transmission towers under various fault conditions. Based on the review of geotechnical surveys and structural analyses to develop a design that ensured not only stability and longevity, but also safety against touch and step voltage. The design process incorporated advanced techniques to address fault current discharge and other regional guidelines. The resulting tower footings provided a solution for the HVDC transmission line, supporting efficient and reliable power transmission across South America.
